To The Rhode Island General Assembly:

We, the undersigned, commend Mr. George W. Redman to you.

George W. Redman, a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, Delegate to the 1986 Rhode Island Constitutional Convention and lifelong resident of Rhode Island has devoted his life to the betterment and beatification of East Providence, the East Bay and all of Rhode Island. He chaired the Fort Hill Waterfront Park Committee, the East Providence Beautification Committee, the East Providence Shoreline Committee and continues to serve on the Narragansett Bay Commission Advisory Council. In addition to being an active community volunteer, he is an avid cyclist, amateur genealogist, historian and sailor. His efforts led to the development of Bold Point Park in East Providence, the rededication of the Roger Williams Historic Site in Rumford, the roll out of East Providence's recycling program and the organization of annual shore cleanups.

Most notably, George was an early pioneer and advocate for the East Bay Bike Path heading a petition drive that collected some 4,200 signatures, tirelessly bird-dogging the Department of Transportation, State officials and opponents to bring the Bike Path to reality. Simply stated - without his vital efforts it is doubtful that we would have what has come to be the tremendous resource that the East Bay Bike Path is today.

As such, we ask that the Rhode Island General Assembly recognize and honor Mr. Redman's outstanding lifetime efforts and volunteerism on bike path and waterfront related projects and issues by naming the future linear park on the Washington Pedestrian Bridge, the George Redman Park upon its completion.

Respectfully yours,
