Spring is definately here. Despite some occasionally chilly days, we've definately turned the corner toward the better weather. It's a great time to get out and exercise in the cool air - just watch out for winter sand left on the roads.

  • Clean-up on the Pawtuxet River - Interested individuals and groups can come to the Howard Industrial Park for a clean up along the Pawtucet River in Cranston at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19,. Turn onto Kenney Drive from Pontiac Avenue (at traffic light) and follow Kenney Drive past the Yushin company's building to the river. Bags, tools, snacks and Earth Day T-shirts will be provided.   • Earth Day Clean Up on the Woonasquatucket River: Set for Tuesday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., join an in-water and riverbank clean-up of the Woonasquatucket River in Providence, sponsored by the Narragansett Bay Commission.   • 6th Annual Ride for Silence - On Wednesday, May 21, at 7 p.m., meet at the Cranston Parkade, outside KMart for 14-mile, slow-paced bicycle ride to remember victims of automotive carnage, raise "Share the Road" awareness, and save lives. Bring a bike in good repair, and a helmet. Arrive at 6:45; the ride commences promptly at 7 p.m. and lasts about two hours. The group will stay together in slow procession on city streets.   • Bike MS - Get in gear and register for the Bike MS: Fidelity Investments MS 150 to be held on June 21 and 22. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Bike MS which benefits the Rhode Island Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The route will take riders from Cranston, RI to Dartmouth, MA and back again with lots of scenic beauty along the way, including a coastal route in Southeastern Massachusetts. Funds raised from the Bike MS go to support direct services for the more than 3,000 people with multiple sclerosis and their families in Rhode Island as well as national MS research to fund a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system.
