Events
Summer is right around the corner, but before the heat sets in we've had some good weather for hiking and biking. Take advantage of this time while it lasts. The days are quite long now, perfect for an extended ride after work or after dinner. Most of the paths close at dusk, so plan your rides accordingly. As the bike path network grows longer, it's possible for longer rides and a chance to be farther away from where you started than you might realize. Once dusk sets in, it gets dark pretty fast on the paths!
As always, if you have an event you'd like listed here, please send e-mail to rigreenways@rigreenways.org.
Saturday, June 13, the Barrington Police Department along with the Bristol County Elks will sponsor a bike safety day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The main focus of the event, which will take place next to Shaw?s Supermarket along the East Bay Bike Path, is bicycle safety, although there will be fun activities for families.
The Providence Bicycle Coalition and the Apeiron Institute for Sustainable Living are pleased to announce the second year of bike trains to Apeiron’s Sustainable Living Festival!
On June 6 & 7 (both Festival days), the PBC will lead rides from Providence Train Station to the festival site in Coventry, about 22 miles, starting at 8:30 and arriving at 10:30. Stops will be scheduled in Cranston, Warwick, West Warwick, and eastern Coventry to pick up additional riders. The first 50 registrants will get free Bike Train t-shirts, and ALL riders get free festival admission and some goodies.
The workshop schedule is great this year (including presentations from the PBC and the US Open Cycling Foundation), and this year’s music lineup is the best one yet, featuring Providence standouts (and national breakout) the Low Anthem, and folk favorite Dar Williams.
More information, including a registration form, are available at http://www.apeiron.org/slf2009/bike.html See you on the train!
