Greetings!

You've found the new website of the Greenways Alliance of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Affiliate of the East Coast Greenway Alliance. The State Committee members of the GARI invite you to explore this site and learn more about our mission to encourage development of greenways throughout the Ocean State. We hope that you will find this page to be a valuable resource for all the biking, walking, hiking, rollerblading and greenway information in our fair state, and in particular, more than 50 miles of the East Coast Greenway - the planned 2,600-mile greenway from Maine to Florida.

New places to ride: Construction update

Work to replace the Martin Street bridge in Lincoln (on the Blackstone River Bikeway) is complete!
The path now passes under Martin Street, offering a much safer option for cyclists as compared with the old design.

A view of the expansive waterfall at the Manville Dam, viewable from the newest segment
of the Blackstone River Bikeway, which opened in November 2007.
The path now offers 9 miles of uninterrupted riding!

Sewer work in early 2008 is taking place on the East Bay Bike Path.
Visit RIDOT's BikeRI website for more information.

A 3.5-mile segment of the Fred Lippitt Woonasquatucket River Greenway/Northwest Bike Trail is now open.
This includes a scenic off road section from Aleppo Street in Olneyville to Lyman Avenue in Johnston.
Note: This path is located in a urban area, and the same precautions one might exercise walking or cycling
in an urban neighborhood should be followed when using this path.

Paving is coming soon for this section of the Coventry Greenway.

The path is passable on foot and with hybrid or mountain bike.
Those with skinny tires will want to avoid this section from Whitford Street to Station Street.

The Aquidneck Land Trust is developing a long-distance greenway in Portsmouth for hikers and equestrians.
